the thing about steve is that he's a goddamn lightweight when it comes to weed. the other thing is that, usually, if he's smoking alone he's already in a not great mind-set so it compounds the effects of everything. he wasn't in a bad mood this time, not really, just--- just maybe feeling off-kilter. eddie's also selling the good stuff. it's stronger than whatever tommy used to get or maybe steve's just lost all tolerance when he fell out of the party scene.
he's still pretty high when eddie sends that last text but it's wearing off, slowly but surely. so, in a moment of weed induced logic because eddie is coming over to read to him while he's high and he can't not be high for that, steve leaves the comfort of his bedroom where he'd been messaging eddie from in bed and bee-lines down the stairs to find the joint he left on one of his mother's granite countertops.
he leaves the door to the pool deck open so he can hopefully hear eddie when he arrives, lights up the joint to take another hit. when he does hear the door, he's put it out again and drops it on one of the tables next to the pool chairs, stands up and realizes that was a bad idea because steve knows he gets stupider when he's high. but he's nervous because he was trying to flirt, a little, maybe but he's not sure if that came through because he's doped up. and eddie's-- eddie's coming. eddie is. eddie and his bambi eyes are here.
eddie may have showered and changed but steve's in a pair of jeans and a baby blue crewneck (which definitely smells like weed right now) as he swings the door open. ) Eddie. You're here.
