[ it's painfully obvious that eddie is far too sober for the level of stoned steve is, and he tries not to feel too guilty about that. he allows himself a moment to take in everything, to take in steve in his current state while he can actually look and not worry about it being deemed as too long.
and eddie is only human, so at being called cute, and having steve comment his eyes has eddie freeze, pointedly ignoring the way his face suddenly feels hot, and the way his breath is suddenly coming a lot slower, shallower. ]

he's not expecting the british accent, though he expects voices, so that earns a bit of a giggle from steve, a crinkle in the corners of his eyes. he's definitely going to do his best to pay attention for the first bit, he is, so he stares back at eddie when he looks over and tilts his chin up with a defiant 'go on' which he doesn't voice. but he thinks. and that counts for something!!! )
[ how eddie manages to get through any narration is a minor miracle. the way steve all out giggles sends a thrill down his spine and warms his heart in a way he didn't think was possible. and when he looks up at steve and sees him latch onto every word?
eddie is simply a goner. whatever attempts he has made to try and stave off a crush are completely out the window. there's a ghost of a smile as eddie barrels on, managing to make it to the end of the first chapter, and to eddie it feels like no time has passed at all. but judging by steve's current state, he probably has no concept of time. ]
